PHP/SQL 2: Relational Theory and Logical Design
Relational Model and SQL Training for the Intermediate or Advanced Student
A thorough understanding of the Relational Model and Logical Design is necessary to build databases that remain consistent and secure as they handle massive amounts of data. A professional database programmer will also need skills in translating the theoretical Logical Design to an equally safe and secure physical design in SQL, fully utilizing all tools possible in SQL as well as PHP to enforce the consistency and security of the design.
In this course, students will learn advanced database theory, design, optimization, and security. From beginning to end, participants will learn by doing their own SQL-based projects using PHP, and then handing them in for instructor feedback. These projects, as well as the final project (a social networking site), will add to the student's portfolio and will contribute to certificate completion. Besides a browser and internet connection, all software is provided online by the O'Reilly School of Technology.
Upon completion of the course, students will earn 4 CEUs (Continuing Education Units) and a CEU letter from the University of Illinois Office of Continuing Education. This course counts toward the PHP/SQL Programming Certificate series.
