Perl Programming Certificate
Become an Expert in Perl
The Perl Programming Certificate series comprises four courses that take you from zero Perl knowledge to an advanced level that includes use and creation of objects and reusable code. From a beginning level assuming no exposure to Perl and little programming experience at all, well-known Perl trainer Peter Scott (author of "Perl Medic", "Perl Debugged", and "Perl Fundamentals") takes you through exception handling, multiprocessing, and complex data structures to web page scraping, HTML parsing, email creation, database interaction, web form handling, and using the power of CPAN: the largest repository of open-source scripting code in the world.
You will learn not only how to use regular expressions, but how they work, so you have the mental model that many people lack, necessary to be able to create them easily. There are many ways to create bad Perl code that countless poorly-crafted books and ill-informed teachers are promoting; this course follows best practices for creating the most maintainable code, both as honed by Scott, and promoted by the biggest names in Perl. This course teaches skills that are predominantly portable across all platforms running Perl; some of the topics (especially in the last course) are restricted in their form to the open-source LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, Perl) stack.
In OST's unique online Learning Sandbox®, students have access to their own web programming and Linux shell-based database environments where they will apply new skills as they are presented by completing real-world projects.

Completion of the 4-course series earns students a Certificate of Professional Development from the University of Illinois. All courses are certified by the University of Illinois Department of Computer Science, and students receive Continuing Education Credits upon completion of each course in the series.
