    Hi,
    I haven’t looked into OST extensively on Facebook, but is there a student community? This might help for searching up jobs, making friends in a different area of technology other than what one has worked in before, and possible study group type interactions. That’s my thought.

    Hi Duane,

    Thanks for your comment. Yes, we are putting together separate Facebook groups for each course, embedded into our new CodeRunner interface to build into a student community much like you describe. The groups (as opposed to our main Page) will be restricted to students and instructors only for privacy purposes, so that each student can feel comfortable posting things like resumes, jobs, etc.

    That being said, we really hope that our students will become actively involved in our main Facebook Page as well — posting reviews, adding comments, and answering questions. We have almost 10,000 current and former students that can help potential students get a feel for what it’s like to take an OST course.

    Hello Trish!

    I posting this comment to let you know that I fully agree with you in regards to you statement about Facebook and Twitter becoming ubiquitous. But I wanted to point out things move fast and that, as of today, It’d seem the most logical option to go with identi.ca given that it can cross-post automatically to twitter and facebook, so just supporting identi.ca can be enough.

    Furthermore, identi.ca allows users to reply, have an inbox (for private messages), an outbox, follow lists and other usefull resources that enhance the “over the net” learning process and mentoring.

    And as if all that wasn´t enough, identi.ca preserves users’ autonomy. In particular, all the software used for Identi.ca is Free Software, and all the data is available under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license, making it Open Data.

    Just my 2 cents.
